OUR MISSION AND VISION

We are the first family medicine residency program in the country, with our first accreditation in 1968. As pioneers in family medicine and geographically positioned as the gateway to the Caribbean and Latin America, it is our mission to prepare resident physicians committed to serve the unique health care needs of the diverse, multicultural population that is Miami.

Our comprehensive resident training allows our faculty to launch competent family physician leaders onto the national and global stages of health care while forever committed to the local community we proudly serve.

Our second mission is to improve access and the delivery of quality primary medical care throughout Miami-Dade County. This starts by our resident-based family medical practice being positioned beyond the walls of the medical campus, within our historic community of Overtown, Miami. Our residents are ambassadors for patient education, serve as health care champions, and partner with our patients to be advocates for improving health equity in underserved and at-risk populations. We are proud of our dedication to the underserved, and are interested in residents who aim to develop skills in cultural competency and underserved medicine as an integral component of their career development.
